‘Twas a Different Halloween

Driving through a powerless neighborhood last night, I found cars parked with their high beams on so little kids could trick-or-treat.  People set up tables with lanterns in their driveways, and friends gathered around bonfires.  My son attended a party illuminated entirely by candlelight and a sliver of cloudy moon.  800,000 homes in Connecticut remain without power—the worst outages in the state’s history–and we have been told it could be a week before the grid is again complete.

I’m visiting There’s A Book today to talk about picture books with Danielle.  It’s nice to have a chance to highlight a few favorites.

  • Amazing that the weather is providing your part of the country with deprivations of power, heat, transportation, and people are coping with grit and innovation. It reminds us again that it is up to ourselves to make life go. I think this is part of why your books ring true. Somethings are forever.

Thanks! We’re hardy stock out here. The schools have shut down for the week. There are free hot suppers at the high school each night and shelter in the community center. Those of us with power share with friends who need a place to warm up and park their perishables.
    Love,
