The Vault of Dreamers Blog Tour Starts Now!
Starting today, I’m heading off on a blog tour for The Vault of Dreamers, stopping to visit a dozen different bloggers who have welcomed me for interviews and guest posts. I’m so grateful to them for their hospitality and their thought-provoking questions. They’ve deftly skirted spoilers, and they’ve covered ideas from points of view and love interests to art. I’m thrilled that my first stop today is with Kate (of Ex Libris), whom I loved meeting when I was in Houston last year.

Caragh with Kate of Ex… Continue reading
The Troll is Out
We have a troll house in our town. Sometimes the troll is in, and sometimes the troll is out. I happen to think it’s worse when the troll is out, because that means the troll is among us, foraging around, probably hungry.
All these things we imagine–trolls, unicorns, true love–they free us. They give us a chance to reclaim the secret, magical sides of our minds, the ones that awaken through kids’ books or at the edge of sleep. Some people think imagination is a luxury or… Continue reading
Back to School: Unknowns Ahead
When I was little, my dad often drove me to school, and as he pulled up to the curb and reached across to open my door for me, he’d say, “Sock it to ‘em.”

Why Do You Write for Young People Instead of Adults?
I ought to understand this question by now. After all, people usually mean well when they ask it. The same types sometimes ask teachers why they teach at a high school rather than a college. A genuinely curious bird might ask a fish why it doesn’t fly.
Yet, like the fish, I sort of don’t know how to answer. How can you explain to a bird what it’s like to swim?
I write for young people because I can. I like writing novels with exciting, high-stakes stories and complex characters… Continue reading
Fierce Reads Tour Ahead!
Next month, I’m departing on an 8-stop book tour with two other young adult novelists, Marie Rutkoski (The Winner’s Curse) and Ann Aguirre (Mortal Danger). This will not be any book tour. It’ll be Fierce!
The team at Macmillan launched the Fierce Reads Tours back in the spring of 2012, when they first started sending groups of YA writers out together to speak at libraries and bookstores all over the country. I joined two of those early tours when the Birthmarked trilogy was coming out, and… Continue reading
