Fierce Readers, Writers, and Friends at the Bethesda Library
Ann Aguirre, Marie Rutkoski and I stopped in at the Bethesda Library yesterday for another Fierce Reads panel and we had a great time. Librarian Kathie Weinberg had thoughtful questions to get us started, and the audience added more so we were able to talk about favorite YA novels, writing discoveries, favorite characters, and much more. We had a chance to linger afterward, and I was delighted to catch up with a few of my friends who live in the area.

In back: Ann Aguirre, Marie… Continue reading
A Fierce Weekend

At RJ Julia Bookseller’s
This weekend found the Fierce Reads Tour at two more great independent bookstores: R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, CT, and Towne Book Center & Café in Collegeville, PA.
At R. J. Julia’s, Kathy welcomed us warmly around the rustic wooden table and moderated a lively discussion with plenty of input from attendees. We were especially happy to have a young gentleman reader, Dean, and his family with us. He was a big fan of Marie’s, with proof that he had corresponded with her back when… Continue reading
A Toast and Some Wonder!

A Toast!
Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group had a Fierce Reads toast yesterday on the 10th floor of the Flatiron Building, and it was amazing. The room was filled with people who work on our books, from all departments, from the president, Jon Yaged, to the newest intern, and it was such a pleasure to be with them all in person. Books are an incredible team effort, not just in the editing, copyediting and proofing, but with art design, production, marketing, sales, publicity, accounting, and distribution. I felt, for the first… Continue reading
Fierceness at the Cambridge Public Library

Many of those attending the Fierce Reads Tour at the Cambridge Public Library were also writers.
Ann Aguirre, Marie Rutkoski and I fielded questions on our latest Fierce Reads panel at the Cambridge Public Library yesterday under the aegis of teen librarian Julie Roach. Topics included imperialism, slavery, reality TV shows, bullying, and writing advice. When I asked any writers in the audience to raise their hands, nearly every single person did, and it was so cool. Special thanks to Julie for her warm hospitality and great… Continue reading
Lively Tour Stop at Water Street Bookstore

Stefanie Kiper Schmidt, Ann Aguirre, Dan Chartrand, Marie Rutkoski, and Caragh O’Brien at Water Street Bookstore, Exeter, NH
The Fierce Reads Tour stopped in Exeter, NH last night for some lively conversation and laughs. Beforehand, blogger Lauren James of Love is Not a Triangle tossed us some fun questions, like which were-animals our characters would be. Then we headed over to Water Street Bookstore, where Dan Chartrand welcomed us warmly. One reader had come all the way from Maine for the event, and everyone was… Continue reading
Nice Readers at Anderson’s in Downers Grove

Kathleen March, Marie Rutkoski, Caragh O’Brien and Ann Aguirre at Anderson’s Bookshop. Fierce!
Marie Rutkoski, Ann Aguirre and I began our Fierce Reads Tour at charming Anderson’s Bookshop in Downers Grove, IL last night and met wonderful readers, including many of Marie’s friends and family members. Kathleen March had the most thoughtful comments and questions for us as moderator, and blogger Heidi of YA Bibliophile came early to interview us and give us little pink crowns. It was a welcoming and wonderful way to start the… Continue reading
