Stitches in a Vast Room
A man sits in a vast room, working a sewing machine, creating a piece of a sculpture that defies sense and gravity. Time doesn’t matter in this place, if it matters anywhere. He merely works, guiding the fabric through the needle’s bite, while the light falls in around him, and the noise of his machine makes perfect silence.
My brilliant, patient editor has given me an extension on The Rule of Mirrors. It’s a gift that can’t be measured. I’m happy to report that we have no firm… Continue reading
Season’s Greetings
As my husband and I were throwing the football up into the tree yesterday, casting up the fishing line that would pull up the rope that would pull up the string of lights, it hit me that Christmas isn’t just for the kids anymore. It’s for me, and for my husband and me as a team. These signs of the holiday—the decorated tree, the wreath, the outside lights—they make it feel “right,” like we’ve pulled off a magic trick, and I’m half surprised that it works on me. Neglect Something
When in doubt, neglect something. That’s my go-to strategy for dealing with holiday prep. Not “start early” or “simplify.” Those boats have sailed, my friend. I say, embrace the chaos. The audiobook is available through Tantor, Amazon, and Audible.com, too, in case you’re interested.
I had the chance to ask Emily a bit about… Continue reading
Post-Thanksgiving Lull
This is one of my favorite days of the year, not for the shopping but for the low-key lull and all those leftovers in the fridge. Num! We have a layer of snow, just enough to be pretty and make me happy to stay inside, and the house is alive with company, the sort that likes to visit for a while and then snuggle up with a good book.

Bloggers Honest and Nice
The blog tour for The Vault of Dreamers, Jean Book Nerd Version proves to me once again how generous bloggers are. Each of the bloggers on my tour has volunteered her valuable time to create her post, and many of them have devoted hours to reading my novel and writing honest reviews.
It’s refreshing to see how someone who might not normally pick up my novel responds to it. I’m so grateful!
The latest visits for the tour include Literary Meanderings, Sabrina’s Paranormal Palace, Chapter by Chapter,… Continue reading
