On the Horizon
It hit me this weekend that Prized is coming out in a month. I’m happy about that, curious and a little anxious, too. The stakes feel higher with the second book because more people are interested in the trilogy now than when Birthmarked came out, and the potential to delight or disappoint is proportionately magnified. I’m depending more than ever on the team at Roaring Brook, my editor especially, and I’m trusting they’re only letting us come out with something decent.
We have a few things in the pipeline leading up to the release.
The paperback edition of Birthmarked comes out tomorrow, October 11th. The bonus extras at the back contain some unglamorous photos, an author interview, ten pondering questions, and the first chapter of Prized.
A giveaway of a signed copy of Prized starts tomorrow.
I’m starting a blog tour on Mundie Moms two weeks from today, on October 24th, and visiting fifteen more sites, one a day, until Prized comes out November 8th. Pulling that together with the bloggers has been a lot of fun so far. We have a secret code that’s running through the tour, which is a gas, frankly. I love being all secret-code-y. The tour will culminate with an author chat on Goodreads, where readers can meet up virtually with me and the bloggers to munch virtual cookies. More details about the tour, code and chat will be explained on the MacTeenBooks site Friday, October 21st.
Roaring Brook is down-pricing the ebook of Birthmarked for a limited time around the release of Prized. I’m not sure exactly when that will begin, but it’s supposed to be a significant bargain once it occurs.
“Tortured,” a story between Birthmarked and Prized, will be e-published for free sometime soon for readers who want to know a bit more about Leon. I’ll add a link as soon as I have one.
Then, on Tuesday, November 8th, I’ll be having a launch at the UConn Coop, my favorite local indie bookstore, and Prized will be out in the wild. Yay!
I was google-ing the launch event and it’s too far away from LI or I’d have driven up. I finished Birthmarked over the weekend. LOOOVED it, so I’m practically tapping my feet and biting my nails, just waiting for Prized (and now Tortured, I loved the way you developed Leon).

Oh! This gives me great joy! I’m so glad you liked it! I really hoped you would.
Yeah, Leon. We do like him.
Plans are evolving for me to do a signing at a NYC bookstore, so I might have a chance to see you again there.
Thanks!
All best,
Caragh
Oh great! Please do let me know when you’ll be in NYC =)
I hope it’s Books of Wonder, I love that place!
Your Aussie publisher sent me PRIZED yesterday – it’s pretty 🙂
Shanella ~ I love BoW, too! I’ll let you know what plans evolve.
Tez ~ How exciting, and how brutally unfair! Why do you get a copy before I do? It is a strange, strange world.
All best,
Caragh
Wow – the Prized cover looks a ton more pretty in a real photo!
Can’t wait for that Leon story!
I wish I could attend the big release, but living way up here in AK there is now way. : (
I wanted to share five 100×100 pixel userpics/avatars I made from Birthmarked. Think of it as fan art from a girl who doesn’t draw. : P

Those are neat images! Thanks for sending them along. I’m honored that Gaia’s story inspired your art.
I hope you’ll enjoy Prized.
