Minute by Minute

flowersIf I could only revise novels and never have to write a first draft again, I’d be a happy camper. As it is, I’m delving into a new novel, with new characters and new terrain, and after two tries, I’ve made it past the first 100-page milestone of my first draft. I may end up cutting much of what I’ve written, but it seems solid enough to keep going, and that’s a relief.

Every morning, I return to the spot where my characters ended the day before, read the last… Continue reading

Book People in Tolland

Sarah Gorman, Caragh O’Brien, and Lucas Knight Vezina at the Tolland Public Library, September 23, 2017

I had a happy visit to the Tolland Public Library where I was invited to speak as part of the Eaton-Dimock-King Authors Series on Saturday, September 23rd. Reconnecting with readers I’ve known for several years was delightful, and I relished the chance to meet new ones.

I especially enjoyed talking with relatives of students I had when I taught in Tolland and current students from the high school now. It’s exciting to know many… Continue reading

Author Talk at the Tolland Public Library September 23rd

This upcoming Saturday, September 23rd, I’ll be speaking at the Tolland Public Library at 1:00 as part of the Eaton-Dimmock-King Authors Series. I’m expecting to read a bit from my latest novel, The Keep of Ages, and talk about writing young adult novels. Having taught at Tolland High School for six years, I have warm connections to the community, and I’m honored to be invited. I’ll be happy to answer questions about publishing, how to get started writing, and better yet, how to keep going.

Living as a… Continue reading

Twitter Takeover This Thursday

On Thursday, September 14th, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm EDT, I’ll be taking over Young Entertainment‘s Twitter feed to chat about writing, books, and whatnot. I’m secretly hoping we’ll cover the important stuff, like the best snacks for writing and how nicely the actor in Anne with an E matches my expectations of Gilbert Blythe.

Look for the #YAuthorTakeover hashtag and ask me a question about Rosie from The Vault of Dreamers or Gaia from Birthmarked. Share your opinions about YA lit these days and tell me… Continue reading

Launched!

The Launch for The Keep of Ages at the UConn Barnes & Nobles

We had the nicest launch for The Keep of Ages on Sunday evening at the UConn Barnes & Noble! I’m grateful to my family, friends, and readers for coming out in force and joining the celebration. Special thanks to Bob and Sharon for hosting the event, complete with flowers and homemade brownies.

It’s the greatest feeling, being part of a community of book people and sharing the happiness of one key milestone. Thank you!

The Keep of Ages Is Out!

Yahoo! The Keep of Ages is out today!

I’m so happy. This book wraps up the Vault of Dreamers trilogy in the perfect dazzling way, and I’m so excited that readers can finally learn what happens to Rosie and all her friends. Yay!

The Keep of Ages Blog Tour ends today, too, with a fitting stop at Mundie Moms. Katie, the force behind Mundie Moms, interviewed me back when Birthmarked first came out, and I had the fine pleasure of meeting her in person when I visited Texas a… Continue reading

Ari & Milo, my serial novel, is now up on Wattpad! I drew illustrations to go with each chapter, and best of all, it’s free! Because of problematic themes, this novel is for mature readers age 17+.
