The Questions

Though I still have a long way to go with revising the third book in the Vault of Dreamers series, I’m starting to think about ideas for what might come afterward. I’m facing a wide-open horizon, with potential everywhere I look. It’s unnerving to have so much uncertainty before me. Part of me is tempted to lock onto an idea just so I can have something solid and sure.

I’m resisting that urge, though, because when I consider investing deeply in another world and new characters, I don’t want to jump too soon off the wrong cliff.

My husband and I have been spending some time in California, where every time I turn a corner, I encounter new vistas and people.  I don’t know yet which ideas will matter most, or how they might come together.  What I do know is that I’m living in the moment more and stressing less. I’m collecting ideas and nudging them. I’m asking questions, not answering them.

That feels right, for now.
