I\u2019m an aunt, though, and my husband and I staked out books as our gift-giving territory long ago. When I consider what to send our 23 nieces and nephews for Christmas, I start with the books I enjoyed myself. It\u2019s especially fun this year because several other writers who debuted with me in 2010 (Ness and Collins are not debuts, of course) have become my friends.<\/p>\n<p>Here are ten of my favorite Young Adult reads for 2010, in no particular order:<\/p>\n<p>1. <em>The Knife of Never Letting Go<\/em> by Patrick Ness (\u201cOw? Todd?\u201d Best talking dog)<\/p>\n<p>2. <em>Mistwood<\/em> by Leah Cypess (A shape-shifter fights her amnesia)<\/p>\n<p>3. <em>The Line<\/em> by Teri Hall (It bounces you back)<\/p>\n<p>4. <em>The Secret Year<\/em> by Jennifer Hubbard   (Secret love, grief, and a diary)<\/p>\n<p>5. <em>Three Rivers Rising<\/em> by Jame Richards\u00a0(A book-length poem experience)<\/p>\n<p>6. <em>Princess for Hire<\/em> by Lindsey Leavitt\u00a0(Much silliness. \u201cPrincess me up.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>7. <em>The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin<\/em> by Josh Berk\u00a0(An endearing guy character)<\/p>\n<p>8. <em>The Life and Opinions of Amy Finawitz <\/em>by Laura Toffler-Corrie\u00a0(Snort out loud funny)<\/p>\n<p>9. <em>Prisoners in the Palace<\/em> by Michaela MacColl\u00a0(Neat historical tidbits of soon-to-be Queen Victoria)<\/p>\n<p>10. <em>Mockingjay<\/em> by Suzanne Collins\u00a0(Katniss brings it on)<\/p>\n<p>Just thinking of them all makes me want to go on another reading binge.\u00a0 Soon!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I haven\u2019t been reading much lately because it makes me want to write instead, which I do.
