\"\"This upcoming Saturday, September 23rd, I’ll be speaking at the Tolland Public Library<\/a> at 1:00 as part of the Eaton-Dimmock-King Authors Series. I’m expecting to read a bit from my latest novel, The Keep of Ages<\/em>, and talk about writing young adult novels. Having taught at Tolland High School for six years, I have warm connections to the community, and I’m honored to be invited. I’ll be happy to answer questions about publishing, how to get started writing, and better yet, how to keep going. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Living as a writer in the quiet corner of Connecticut has obvious advantages: we have plenty of nature to inspire us, deep community roots, and a down-to-earth culture that nurtures our abilities to focus on what matters. Finding connections to other writers and book people, however, can be more challenging here than in a big city, and some local writers fear they’re missing out on important trends or publishing shortcuts. Sometimes we have to go a bit further to inform ourselves, and chances to meet readers are all the more special.
