Photo credit: Tia of Cabookle Reviews.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Different perspectives made for an interesting panel last week when I joined fellow writers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pegideitzshea.com\" target=\"_blank\">Pegi Deitz Shea<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danameachenrau.com\" target=\"_blank\">Dana Meachen Rau<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandrahorning.com\" target=\"_blank\">Sandra Horning<\/a>, and literary agent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tridentmediagroup.com\/agents\/alexander-slater\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Slater<\/a>\u00a0(of Trident Media) at\u00a0UConn. Our panel, aptly named Writing and Publishing Children\u2019s and YA Literature, covered picture books, illustrations, trends in the young adult market, work-for-hire projects, and the value of writers\u2019 groups and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scbwi.org\" target=\"_blank\">SCBWI<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/english.uconn.edu\/erick-piller\/\" target=\"_blank\">Erick Piller<\/a>, Assistant Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativewriting.uconn.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Creative Writing Program<\/a>, was a thoughtful, welcoming moderator. Attendees seemed particularly interested in the publishing process and how different that can be for a variety of writers. Alex\u2019s description of how he weighs 20 or more queries a day suggested how difficult it can be for a writer\u2019s work to stand out. It was a pleasure to meet some of the young writers (Tia!
