Different perspectives made for an interesting panel last week when I joined fellow writers Pegi Deitz Shea<\/a>, Dana Meachen Rau<\/a> and Sandra Horning<\/a>, and literary agent Alex Slater<\/a>\u00a0(of Trident Media) at\u00a0UConn. Our panel, aptly named Writing and Publishing Children\u2019s and YA Literature, covered picture books, illustrations, trends in the young adult market, work-for-hire projects, and the value of writers\u2019 groups and SCBWI<\/a>. Erick Piller<\/a>, Assistant Director of the Creative Writing Program<\/a>, was a thoughtful, welcoming moderator. Attendees seemed particularly interested in the publishing process and how different that can be for a variety of writers. Alex\u2019s description of how he weighs 20 or more queries a day suggested how difficult it can be for a writer\u2019s work to stand out. It was a pleasure to meet some of the young writers (Tia!
