UConn Coop during the Grand Opening Saturday, March 1, 2014<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Book lovers flocked to the Grand Opening of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/UConn-Co-op-Where-Readers-and-Authors-Meet\/65077081052\">UConn Co-op Bookstore at Storrs Center<\/a>, CT, this weekend.\u00a0 The ribbon-cutting event jointly celebrated the opening of the Bookstore, the <a href=\"http:\/\/bimp.uconn.edu\/\">Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dining.uconn.edu\/le_petit_marche.html\">Le Petit March\u00e9 Caf\u00e9<\/a>, which share the contiguous space.\u00a0 More people came than were expected Saturday afternoon, March 1<sup>st<\/sup>, and the celebration was super fun.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3276\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Bell, and Sally Weis, members of the community took tours, browsed, and sampled French pastries from the caf\u00e9.\u00a0 Local authors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/authorwallylamb\">Wally Lamb<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Samuel_F._Pickering,_Jr.\">Sam Pickering<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ellenlitman.com\/\">Ellen Litman<\/a>, and a dozen others mingled with friends and readers.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the UConn <i>a cappella<\/i> singing group, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uconnchordials.com\/\">The Chordials<\/a>, performed several contemporary numbers, and a live jazz href=\"http:\/\/bimp.uconn.edu\/?paged=3\">Anne Fitzgerald<\/a>\u2019s two performances of her new puppet arts production, <i>Reverse Cascade<\/i>, were filled to capacity, and the new exhibits featured exquisitely detailed puppets and photographs highlighting the history of puppetry.\u00a0 I was especially delighted by a photo of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Muppet friends defining the word Connecticut have long been fans of the UConn Coop Bookstore, but now that it has more of a chance to breathe in its new location, it\u2019s better than ever.\u00a0 What other bookstore shares space with puppets and cinnamon banana crepes?\u00a0 Saturday\u2019s celebration showed again how books, art, music, friendship, and a little sweetness are at the center of our community.
