Happened to Comics?\u201d<\/a>\u00a0at the Jorgensen Monday, March 24th.\u00a0 Both events are free and open to the public, and I can\u2019t wait.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, I\u2019m a little scared of traditional puppets, but I love how weird and creative contemporary ones are.\u00a0 The Ballard puppets are world renowned for their innovation and grace, and <a href=\"http:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/blog\/2013\/04\/world-renowned-ballard-institute-museum-of-puppetry-moving-to-storrs-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">the opening<\/a> will feature the premier performance of Anna Fitzgerald\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/bimp.uconn.edu\/?p=1965\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Reverse Cascade<\/i><\/a> at 1:00 pm.\u00a0 The official ribbon cutting happens at 2:00.\u00a0 The Ballard Institute abuts the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/UConn-Co-op-Where-Readers-and-Authors-Meet\/65077081052\" target=\"_blank\">UConn Coop Bookstore<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.storrscenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Storrs Center<\/a>, and shares its Black Box theater space.\u00a0 Incidentally, the Coop has a new creperie, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dining.uconn.edu\/le_petit_marche.html\" target=\"_blank\">Le Petit March\u00e9 Caf\u00e9<\/a>, just in case, you know, anyone wants a crepe.<\/p>\n<p>I was first blown away by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ArtSpiegelman\" target=\"_blank\">Art Spiegelman\u2019s<\/a> Pulitzer Prize-winning <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maus\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Maus<\/em><\/a> a decade ago, when I fell into his gripping, snide, heart-breaking story of the Holocaust.\u00a0 It was my first real graphic novel, and it has haunted me ever since. \u00a0I can\u2019t believe the artist I admire so much is coming here, to Storrs, where I can gawk and listen to him in person. \u00a0Spiegelman&#8217;s lecture starts Monday night at 7:00 in the <a href=\"http:\/\/jorgensen.uconn.edu\/events\/view.php?id=393\" target=\"_blank\">Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts<\/a> on the UConn campus, and again, it is shockingly free and open to the public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>*Spiegelman&#8217;s lecture has been postponed to Monday, March 24, 2014.
