Do You Get Much Fan Mail?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-2941\" alt=\"PurpleFlowers\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caraghobrien.com\/book\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/PurpleFlowers.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"158\" \/>A.\u00a0 I do.\u00a0 It seems like a lot to me, at least.\u00a0 Even though the first book in the Birthmarked trilogy has been out since 2010 and the fuss around the release of the third book has died down, readers are still finding Gaia\u2019s story for the first time, and some of them send me the nicest notes.\u00a0 This week, one reader told me her teenage son had recommended <i>Birthmarked<\/i> to her, and reading the series with him had brought them closer.\u00a0 Another reader told me her set of girlfriends had read the series together and they just loved it.\u00a0 Another wrote begging me to please write another book in the series.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to describe how heartening it is to hear such kind words.\u00a0 You see, I didn\u2019t know, back when I was writing Gaia\u2019s story, that someone today would like my story enough to send me an email.\u00a0 I wrote it in doubt, finding my way uncertainly, taking risks that didn\u2019t always work, and I\u2019m doing that again now with my next novel.\u00a0 I am into the sixth draft of this book, and the last act is not behaving.\u00a0 Sometimes I\u2019ll be writing and deleting, and writing more and deleting more, and then I\u2019ll look up to check my inbox and get a little jolt of encouragement from someone who liked what I did with my last novel.\u00a0 It gives me hope that I\u2019ll get through this revision and someday, someone might like this book, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Q.
