The Rule of Mirrors Update

The description of the novel has been released, so I’m sharing it here.  The novel is due out next February 16, 2016.  Just a heads up: the description of Book 2 is a spoiler for the ending of The Vault of Dreamers, but I think that’s okay.  Here goes!

RuleofMirrorsCoverThe Rule of Mirrors (Vault of Dreamers #2)

The fast-paced, psychologically thrilling sequel to The Vault of Dreamers follows Rosie after her consciousness has been split in two.

The entire country was watching when Rosie Sinclair was expelled from Forge, the prestigious arts school that doubles as a reality TV show. But few knew how Dean Berg was mining students’ dreams in laboratories deep below the school. And no one, least of all the Dean himself, knows that when Rosie’s dreams are seeded into the mind of another patient, Rosie’s consciousness wakes up in that body–a girl far from Forge, a girl with a completely different life from Rosie, a girl who is pregnant.

Told from alternating points of view between Rosie as she makes sense of her new identity and the shattered subconscious that still exists in her old body, The Rule of Mirrors will keep readers on the edge of their seats and leave them hungry for more.

Sounds pretty good, right? I had another talk with my editor Kate Jacobs last week and we’re heading in to line edits with The Rule of Mirrors.  This is a phase that I usually find intense and satisfying, so I’m psyched.

  • I CALLED THAT SHE WAS GOING TO END UP IN SOMEONES BODY AS A SUBCONSCIOUS VOICE IN THEIR MIND LIKE SHE HAD! I think her subconscious voice was someone that did the same thing as her!

  • Aria ~ You are brilliant!

  • I just finished the Vault of Dreamers, and immediately came here looking for a sequel. The Vault of Dreamers was so thrilling, in a way I’ve never seen before. I’m certainly looking forward to the release of The Rule of Mirrors. I can only hope that we get to see Janice and Burnham again. They’re my favorite characters. Happy writing!

  • Kara ~ Thank you so much! You’ll see Burnham and Janice again, though more of one than the other. I’m glad you like them!

  • I loved the book. I spontaneously picked it up at a bookstore after reading the flap. I have never read any of your previous works, but I decided to read this one, and I finished it within a couple of days. It was very interesting! I can’t wait to see how everything is resolved. Also, I love Linus. I really hope he is alright and in the next one! 🙂

  • It’s me again! Lol when I said I loved the book, I obviously meant the Vault of Dreamers, not The Rule of Mirrors. 😉 I can’t wait to read it though!

  • Mandi ~ Thanks! How nice of you! I’m glad you took a chance on the book and it worked for you. You’d be reasonable to assume Linus appears in The Rule of Mirrors, one way or another. 🙂

  • I picked up The Vault of Dreamers due to the recommendation from a friend, and I must say that it was a good recommendation. I do not read books for the brag rights, or the life-changing lessons, but I read to lose myself in them, until they become my own story that I can cherish and re-read for the future. I always have enjoyed books, regardless of their genre or author, but I have never, ever gone online to tell an author what I thought about their book. I know you’ve heard this a lot (reviews above) but I absolutely loved your book. You’ve probably heard this from a million people, but I can’t wait to read the next installment and I hope that you aren’t too pressured because of the excitement (from everyone who has read your books). Your writing style is absolutely fantastic- simple to follow and easy to get lost in. I found characteristics of myself in Rosie and I found myself wanting to be as daring and driven as her. Your creativity never ceased to amaze me and I actually spent today, reading this entire book. The way you wove the characters around your intricate plot and the painfully real emotions captivated me. But what I said really is an unrefined way of putting it. I just finished your book a few minutes ago, and I searched online to find out whether there was a second. I just wanted to take the time to genuinely thank you for your work. I don’t know if you realize it, but reading books is an amazing part of my life that I always value and it’s authors like you that make it a wonderful experience. Before, “The Book Thief” by Marcus Zusak was my favorite book, but now I do believe that “The Vault of Dreamers” is my new favorite. Please do continue with “The Rule of Mirrors”. I hope that you continue to write, because it is a skill that you are most definitely, ineffably an expert in.

    Fond regards,
    Molly

  • Dear Molly Rosa,

You have no idea how much your words mean to me. I’m honored to be the first writer to whom you’ve sent a message and stunned to find my book in the same sentence with The Book Thief. I’m so pleased you were drawn in by Rosie and her world. It’s kind of you to remind me not to feel too pressured about my writing, though, of course, I want to try all the more to live up to your expectations. I tend to be quite hard on myself about my work, and your message here helps me feel that the effort is worth it. Thank you most sincerely.
    All best,

  • I recieved The Vault of Dreamers book as a Christmas gift and finally got around to starting it on Friday night, and finishing it now, on Sunday! I could not put the book down for two days straight! I did not expect this book to be as interesting as it was, and I loved how it made me think and use my brain. It was a completely mind-boggling story, in a good way. After finishing the book, I raced to look for the sequel and was happy to see that it will be released in less than a month! I can hardly wait! I loved your writing style and thought process in The Vault of Dreamers, as well as the way you developed the characters and storyline. Your technique was so inspiring to me, a hopeful teenage writer with big dreams! This novel has definitely made its way to the top of my long list of favorite books, and I have already recommended your work to all of my friends that love books as much as I do. I cannot wait to see what’s in store next! Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity with readers, I hope I can be as talented a writer as you are one day! 🙂

  • Dear Sydney,
My goodness! That was a fast read. Thank you for this exceedingly kind email. I’m so honored that Rosie’s story has become a favorite of yours, and I’m grateful you’ve told your friends about the novel. That’s the best way to hear about new books.
Let me wish you well with your own writing. I hope you find ideas that intrigue you and all the time you need to explore them.
    All best,
    Caragh

  • Hi! I just finished the first book and am so hungry for more!!! Unfortunately I couldn’t find it at any bookstore but no worries I ordered it online! So I am just ITCHING to read it. It’s honestly so thrilling and I wish it wouldn’t end! Thank you for your incredible writing

  • Dear Geni,
Thank you! I’m so happy to see your enthusiasm! Rosie is one of my all time favorite characters, and I hope you enjoy seeing how she handles her adventures in the next book.
