One Dark, Happy Night in Belmont

Leah Cypess and Caragh M. O'Brien at the Belmont Library, November 19, 2012

Last night at the Belmont Public Library, librarian Ellen Girouard provided inviting baskets of oranges for all of us to share, and the happiness expanded from there.  I love it when kids show up at a reading and come right to the table with their curiosity and big eyes.  (Waves to two charming sisters, M. and S.!)  I love when a library event turns into a free-range conversation among the librarian, the readers,… Continue reading

On Hometowns and Travel

The Umbrellas of BDL. I must be home.

St. Paul is a hometown that always welcomes you back as if you’ve just been off on a little jaunt and must surely intend to move back soon for good.  Former neighbors, schoolmates, and relatives came out to my reading at the Red Balloon Bookshop last Friday and lingered to catch up.  I had the best time.

On three subsequent mornings, I had breakfast with three of my sisters, giving me glimpses into their lives.  We had a dusting… Continue reading

Unexpected Gifts

You all know how much I love my editor Nancy Mercado since I babble on about her every chance I get. You may not know that these days, she’s on maternity leave with her sweet and miraculous babe.  I couldn’t be happier for her.  She gave me a thumbs up and an enormous amount of trust on her way out the door, and now, basically, I’m facing months of no editorial feedback on Book 1 of Project Next.

I have a complete draft, mind you.  This novel… Continue reading

Sandy in the Back Yard

Molly Walsh (my cuz), me, Beth Wagner, Kristen Eaton, and Rachel Oblak at Phoenix Books, Burlington, VT, October 26, 2012.

First, a photo from my happy book event at Phoenix Books in Burlington, VT last Friday.  I had the greatest time talking books with fellow writers and book lovers.  Thanks to Billy, Kristen, Rachel, and Beth for having me in!

And now, today.  I admit it’s scary here.  When the wind blows hard, the howling is fierce enough to distract me from writing, and then I… Continue reading

Photo Essay of a Fierce Reads Tour

From October 16-21, 2012, Genn Albin, Leigh Bardugo, Marie Rutkoski and I spoke each day at a library or bookstore in a different city.  We visited Gurnee, IL; Bethesda, MD; Columbus, OH; Oxford, MS; Haverford, PA; and New York City, NY.

Our panels began with each of us briefly introducing our books, and then we answered questions. First stop: the Warren Newport Public Library in Gurnee, IL.

We spent a lot of time traveling. Media escorts would meet our planes and drive us to our hotels and events. En… Continue reading

Tour

The Fierce Reads Tour finishes up today at Books of Wonder in NYC at 1:00 today.  I’ve heard the event will be streaming live on the Fierce Reads Facebook page.  I’ve been enjoying myself immensely and meeting great people.

Caragh M. O'Brien, Genn Albin, Jill Moore, Leigh Bardugo, and Marie Rutkoski on the Fierce Reads Tour at Off Square Books in Oxford, MS.

Ari & Milo, my serial novel, is now up on Wattpad! I drew illustrations to go with each chapter, and best of all, it’s free! Because of problematic themes, this novel is for mature readers age 17+.
