Little to Report

LincolnLogsThis writer has little to report.  I type, stare out the window, type some more, ignore my to-do list, and type.  At the end of the day, it looks like I’ve done nothing.  The breakfast dishes still list in the sink, and no one has moved the pile of tax things on the table.

It sort of reminds me of raising toddlers, actually.  We’d live in the moment all day, building towers, talking, running, and laughing, while the housework went ignored around us.  At the… Continue reading

Do Goodreads Giveaways Make a Difference?

Sure they do.  As far as visibility for a book goes, Goodreads clearly exposes a novel to new readers.  Whether readers go on to remember the novel, buy it, or read it is anybody’s guess, but since discovery is a key step before any of the rest of that can happen, visibility can’t hurt.

Giveaway1Here’s a case in point.  Though Birthmarked came out in 2010, the audio books for the series have just been released this month, and my audio publisher wanted to highlight them.  Tantor… Continue reading

Chatting It Up on Blog Talk Radio

BlogRadioInterview1.22.13I had a lovely chat last week with Cindy Wolfe Boynton, the host of Literary New England Radio Show, which airs Monday nights through Blog Talk Radio.  The show focuses on writers in New England, so it feels like it’s happening in my own back yard, yet it has a broad audience with listeners as far away as the U.K.  Cindy interviewed me about the Birthmarked trilogy, from how I came up with the first ideas, to how the trilogy became audio books this month… Continue reading

A New Cover for Promised in the UK!

Promised (Birthmarked #3) will be released as an ebook in the UK on Thursday, February 7th, and Simon & Schuster Children’s Books UK has come up with a third cover to complete the series.  Isn’t this striking and mysterious?  The copy reads: “When the cost of the freedom of others is your own future, would you pay the ultimate price?”  Put that way, it sounds heart-wrenchingly difficult.  It fascinates me to see what elements are distilled out of a story to be highlighted on… Continue reading

The Unclever Writer

Jan21_2I’d like to say a word on behalf of gray afternoons, when the writer is not clever.  Sternly outwitted by the traps she’s set for her wretched characters, she longs for interruption.  If only the piano tuner would come today and work his way painfully up the octaves, half-note by half-note, straining for the right pitch.  If only the washing machine would stop and mandate the moving of clothes from one hole to another.  If only a nice cup of tea would appear on the edge… Continue reading

Birthmarked Comes to Audio Book!

Get your earbuds ready.  The audio book of Birthmarked has arrived!

BirthmarkedAudioCover2I’m so happy about this project. Over the last few months, the audio book process for Birthmarked has been charmed, but it was not always so.

Let me take you back.  About a year ago, I received a nice email from Carla Mercer-Meyer, who said she would love to narrate the audio book for Birthmarked, and she offered to send me an audio sample.  I was sorry to report back that we had no deal… Continue reading

Ari & Milo, my serial novel, is now up on Wattpad! I drew illustrations to go with each chapter, and best of all, it’s free! Because of problematic themes, this novel is for mature readers age 17+.
